With time, I’ve ended up building a whole set of playlists and music for different situations. As you can imagine, many of them are specific to juggling; in this case, we’re talking about a playlist for training 3 diabolos.

While running workshops and explaining patterns to other people, I’ve noticed a recurring trend: when I put on music with a tempo that fits the exercise, the group tends to hold the rhythm better, which makes learning easier.

Sometimes, at the end, I’ve asked people what they usually listen to when they train. And I’ve often found a contrast: the people who felt more overwhelmed usually came from training with very fast music. It’s not a rule, but it makes sense—if the track pushes you to rush, your timing speeds up. When you’re training patterns that aren’t solid yet, that disorder shows up quickly: you throw too early or out of time, and everything falls apart.

I’ve also felt this very clearly myself while performing. Sometimes I’ve performed with live music, and when the musicians speed up, I notice that I tend to speed up my own timing as well. That complicates what I’m doing and forces me to devote part of my attention just to slowing myself down and keeping the rhythm I need. When part of your focus goes there, there’s less left to listen to the pattern and pay attention to detail.

That’s why, for me, choosing music is a training variable. When the tempo fits, I have more mental space to learn new patterns: to repeat for longer, to make cleaner mistakes, and to better understand what’s breaking down.

This playlist comes from that place: music that works for me when I’m working on 3 diabolos and I want the tempo to help rather than drag me along. If you try it, what’s worth observing is simple: which tracks help you stay stable, and which ones make you start pushing.

I listen to music whenever I can, and over the years I’ve realised that, for training, it can be a key factor.
