We were honored to bring our performance Dame du Cirque to Circ d’Ara Mateix at the Mercat de les Flors, the house of dance in Barcelona, Catalonia. We wanted to create a performance that conveyed the awe-inspiring power and beauty of the mountains, and the philosophy that surrounds them.
Inspired by the tragic stories of passionate climbers like Pau Escalé and Iñaki Ochoa de Olza, we sought to create a performance that honored their memories and celebrated their passion for the mountains. To achieve this, we used our juggling and our bodies to convey the fragility of the human form and the power of nature.
As we worked on the set design, we wanted to keep it minimalistic, relying on our movements and lighting and sound effects to create an immersive atmosphere that would transport the audience to the heart of the mountains. We also wanted to incorporate elements that would pay tribute to the climbers who inspired us.
We are grateful for the opportunity to share our art with the world, and we hope that through our performance, we can inspire others to see the beauty and power of the mountains, and to appreciate the fragility and strength of the human form.
