When preparing a diabolo workshop, the experience begins long before arriving at the workspace. Every detail matters: from checking the diabolos and sticks to structuring dynamics that allow participants to explore freely.
From June 27th to July 1st, we will lead an intensive 30-hour lab at Teatro Viriato (Viseu). A space to delve deeply into the diabolo, deconstruct patterns, and experiment with new movement structures.
Before leaving, we will prepare materials that open up possibilities for exploration. Ropes with different tensions, sticks of varying weights, and elements to work on rhythms and trajectories. Each tool will be designed to facilitate research and adapt to different approaches.
The lab will be structured to reshape technique, understand trajectories, and observe the relationship between the diabolo and the body. The session will not focus on repeating sequences, but rather on understanding how they are built, modified, and adapted to movement.
This lab is designed for young people between 10 and 14 years old, with the aim of introducing them to the technique while giving them space to investigate. We will not focus on the precision of movements, but on how they can transform and adapt to each individual.
As we structure the sessions, the approach will become clear: deconstruct the technique to understand it better, play with variations, and find connections with body movement. Participants will discover ways to experiment with the diabolo in a fluid and personal way.
With the materials ready and an open structure to evolve according to the group, all that remains is to pack everything up and start the workshop. A workshop begins long before the first toss.
