This year we took part in three residencies within the In the Making program at La Central del Circ. These residencies allowed us to advance our work on the show, test materials with time, and make decisions that, without this space, would have been postponed.
Background work, direct support, and material to continue
During the residencies, we were able to focus on technical and physical aspects of the piece, but also on specific production elements. The support we received helped us cover part of the cost of a drum kit, a resource we lacked to keep working consistently. This purchase, although a practical action, had a direct impact on how we could rehearse and develop the material.
Documenting to read what’s happening
Taking advantage of the residency time, we recorded fragments of the process in video and photo. Not to have pretty images, but to see what we were doing. To be able to look from the outside, compare, repeat with a different perspective. We’re interested in documentation as a tool, not as a showcase.
In the last residency, Mariachiara Freddura did a very thorough photo session for us, working from what we had already tried and showing great attention to how we work physically. The result isn’t a selection of final images, but a reading of what the body and space were holding at that moment.
Looking back to be able to continue
The In the Making residencies weren’t a parenthesis. They were part of the process. They allowed us to move forward, but also to become aware of where we are. Working at La Central connected us with other teams, but above all, it gave us the conditions to sustain our own.
